The device
A bar or bar is a device whose main task is to control the canopy. With it, you can change the angle of attack, the direction of movement and its speed. The controllability of the structure, as well as the safety of the kiter, depends on the quality of the selection of this equipment.
The device of the kite control bar may seem a little complicated at first glance. It is a crossbar covered with a special non-slip coating. Along the edges are fixed control slings. In the middle there is a hole through which a dipower line passes, thanks to which traction is controlled. On the side of the kiter, it ends with a chicken-loop - a special loop that is fixed on the trapezoid. On the other hand, the dipower line is divided into several separate elements attached to the dome. The split point can be right next to the bar or at some distance from it. Just above the crossbar there is also a trimmer to control the angle of attack and an emergency sail shooting system.
The size of the bar is determined by the area of the canopy. If it is designed for light wind and has an area of 12-20 m2, a large bar 45-52 cm long is needed. Kites 8 meters or less are equipped with a small bar (38-45 cm). Medium models can be controlled by a bar of any size. In addition, when choosing a bar, you need the design of the sail itself, or rather, the angle of divergence of the lines.
Is it possible to use a bar from another kite
If we talk about top brands, then the cost of a kite bar alone can exceed $500. Accordingly, many kiters want to save money and consider whether one bar can be used for several canopies and whether to buy a product from a cheaper brand instead of the original. Like equipment, prices for kite training can vary greatly. Unfortunately, this does not always depend on the professionalism of the instructors.
It is possible to combine a kite and a bar of different brands. In this case, the original and alternative bars must match in several ways:
- number of lines (four- and five-line models are available);
- fastening lines to the sail (in case mismatch, you can use additional fasteners); Is it possible to use one bar for several kites? Perhaps, subject to the principles described above. However, it is better to have at least two bars, and even better - to select the bar for each dome separately. This will greatly reduce the wear and tear on the equipment and lines, as well as allow you to have a replacement in case of an unexpected breakdown.
It is better not to save money and buy a bar according to the brand and model of the kite. Only in this case, riding will be really enjoyable, exciting and safe.
